Deanie’s Seafood One of Few Markets in New Orleans with Full-Service Restaurant
Today, we’re known as one of the best places for boiled seafood and best New Orleans’s seafood restaurants, but back in 1961, Deanie’s was the first seafood market to open its doors in the quaint fishing village of Bucktown, located along the shores of Lake Pontchartrain.

Deanie’s in Bucktown, located at 1713 Lake Ave. in Metairie, is one of only a handful of restaurants in the Greater New Orleans area with a seafood market adjacent to the restaurant, offering customers the opportunity to purchase the same fresh, locally sourced seafood Deanie’s uses to create their authentic New Orleans cuisine.
A neighborhood seafood market and restaurant, Deanie’s Seafood Restaurant & Market in Bucktown is open seven days per week. The market offers freshly caught seafood from local shrimpers, fisher-men and crawfishermen as well as local specialties such as oysters, alligator meat, turtle meat, crawfish bread, pork and crawfish boudin sausage, plus Deanie’s scratch made crabmeat stuffing, crawfish stuffing, New Orleans Barbeque Shrimp sauce, and the fresh daily catch, including redfish, speckled trout, red snapper and farm-raised Mississippi catfish.
We’ve recently added a comfortable outdoor dining deck outside of the seafood market for patrons to picnic on boiled shrimp, crab and crawfish from the market. And you can bring back the fresh daily catch, fresh shrimp and prepared items like seafood gumbo, crawfish étouffée, stuffed artichokes and stuffed shrimp to cook up at home.
For three generations, Deanie’s has remained true to its Bucktown roots by serving the finest seafood prepared in the authentic and unique New Orleans culinary tradition. Deanie’s also prepares and ships delicious fresh and boiled Louisiana seafood to customers throughout the United States.
New Orleans offers some fantastic seafood markets and the best-tasting seafood around. At Deanie’s, we strive to provide New Orleans’s finest fresh seafood at our market and deliver an authentic culinary experience in our three restaurants —Deanie’s Seafood in Bucktown, our original restaurant adjacent to the market, Deanie’s in the French Quarter, located at the corner of Iberville and Dauphine streets, and Deanie’s Sea Food Kitchen, our newest location Uptown at the corner of Magazine Street and Jackson Avenue.
As a patron described Deanie’s in a recent review: “This is a local hang, 100%! If you want a taste of real New Orleans, Deanie’s is a spot that you need to go to. This place has been in the game a long time. It’s a staple with locals for a reason. I always try to swing through here when I am in New Orleans. Why? Because the taste and experience is true New Orleans.”
Today Deanie’s is more than a neighborhood seafood market and three popular restaurants. It is a living symbol of an old, beloved fishing community called Bucktown. And rest assured, as long as there’s Deanie’s, there will always be a place to enjoy Bucktown just like old times.
