Deanie’s proud to support wild, sustainable domestic seafood during Louisiana Catch

Deanie’s Seafood Restaurants are proud to support wild, sustainable domestic seafood and the Louisiana fishing industry. As a participant of the Louisiana Wild Seafood Certification Program (LWSCP), Deanie’s was invited to take part in “Catch Louisiana,” featuring New York Times journalist and James Beard award-winning author Paul Greenberg, an event discussing issues of seafood sustainability. Catch Louisiana showcased Greenberg’s best-selling book on sustainable U.S. seafood, “American Catch: The Fight for Our Local Seafood.”

The event involved local fishermen, seafood experts, restaurant chefs and natural resource administrators, who joined Greenberg in chronicling the role, quality and availability of regional seafood.

Louisiana Catch also showcased Bucktown Marina and Louisiana Pontchartrain Fishermen’s Associations’ newly expanded partnerships with Louisiana Direct Seafood and Southshore Direct Seafood, web portals where consumers can find the freshest Gulf seafood available in the region, including Deanie’s Seafood Market in Bucktown. The event was funded by the Walton Foundation and hosted by Louisiana Sea Grant, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries’ Louisiana Wild Certified Seafood Program, the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation, Lake Pontchartrain Fishermen’s Association, and the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board.

We are honored to be a part of events in our community supporting the commercial seafood industry and to have the opportunity to be a part of Catch Louisiana . We encourage locals to make use of the new Southshore Direct Seafood website to locate today’s fresh catch!
